ALEXANDER-Camel Cigarettes
Spoof Ad Questions
1. The original advertisement was for Camel cigarettes. The ad was saying that the cigarettes are pleasurable. They’re slogan was “Pleasure To Burn.” It portrayed, a young, healthy looking person as the “spokesperson”. It shows this person smoking. Some people might think that smoking makes them look like that, or it might make them look cool.
2. I chose to create a spoof ad of this advertisement because I saw a lot of potential, and I had many ideas of what I could change to make it a good spoof ad. It was a very easy target I think. Another reason that made me want to make a spoof of this ad was that hardly anyone has ever really seen a cigarette ad before, so it might have seemed more interesting to those people. One more reason would be that a lot of adolescents today, see smoking as something cool, or something that makes you an adult. I hoped that maybe some kids in my class would see this ad, and realize how stupid smoking really is.
3. I changed a lot in the original ad. This list will say what steps I took:
1. I changed the slogan from “Pleasure to Burn” to “Life To Burn.” It shows that cigarettes do in fact shorten your life, I showed this by using a metaphor of burning it away.
2. I made the face of the spokesperson ash, like the ash of a cigarette. I took the ash from the end of the cigarette. I did this because I thought that the ash stuck out a lot in the picture.
3. I made her lips, which were nice, and plump, into little pasty looking lips. I was trying to show that cigarettes are unhealthy, and bad for you.
4.I made her teeth yellow because that is what happens to smokers.
5. I made the camel symbol in the bottom of the page a skinny, yellow camel. I added a cigarette in the mouth. I think it shows that the camel looks unhealthy.
6. I put a skull, and crossbones in the smoke of the cigarette to symbolize that cigarettes will eventually kill you.
7. The last thing I did was put a different message in the Surgeon General’s Warning.
4. I only used one other image in my spoof ad. It was the skull, and crossbones that were in the smoke. I got this image from Google Images. I’m not sure where it’s actually from.
5. If I were to do the same project again, I wouldn’t really change anything in my spoof ad, I am very happy with how it looks. I think if I did this again, it would go a lot faster, and I think I would be much easier. This is because the next time I do it I will have a lot of experience with photo-shop.
pleasure to burn- shelly
New Ad
Original
For my spoof add I decided to change the background from the surrene green color too a fiery background.
I wanted it too look like he was dropped it a bucket of flames which I think I have achieved. I changed the warning too say it will cause many diseases because in the long run cigarretts will kill you if someting doesnt get you first. The origional text box said it wasnt good too smoke if you were pregnant but it isnt good to smoke in general. I left the ofirional name camel but I got ride of the sublet that said, THe pleasure that burns to, it burns your lungs because everything you inhale, it is fire and soot that you are breathing in. I think I have made this add effective and when someone sees this they will understand what it was that I am trying to achieve.
Name and description of the original advertisement
My advertisement is called Camelo, Pleasure to burn, it is advertising the need to smoke and on the cover it is a picture of a rugged man with a cigarette. This ad makes it look very "cool" and masculine to smoke.
why you chose to create a spoor ad of this advertisement
I chose to use this advertisement as my spoof because not only was if very intresting, but it also seemed like there was allot of different ways I could spoof this. One thing that stuck me was the warning in the bottom of the original that had said that s making would cause damage to fetus if the mother was to smoke while pregnant, which it will, but it will also harm anyone else who smokes over even second hand smokes.
describe the thing you did and the steps you took to create your new ad
First I decided too brainstorm a few ideas for my ad and see what would work well. Then when I uploaded my ad I went on goggle out found a nice background of flames and decided to put a new catch phrase on the top.
if you used any images from two or more different sources, name and reference them
I got my fire background from www.wildlandfire.com and that is the only other image that i had used in my ad
If you were to do a similar assignment again, what would you do differently and what would you need to know
if i were to do this over i would use more tools from photoshop, and i think i would have been able too make it look much better and more innovative and original with my now better knowledge.
Spoof Ad Assignment
The original ad is an ad for perfume; Sensi by: Giorgio Armani. There was a lady lying down with a perfume bottle at her side.
I chose this ad because I thought it was funny, the first thing I said when I saw it was that I thought she looked dead. There for I made an ad where she was killed by drunk driving
To create my new ad I first took the original ad and cut out the girl. I then went on the Internet and searched for a city street. I then brought that city scene into Photoshop and put the woman on top and placed her accordingly. I went back to the Internet and found the logo for MADD Canada and brought that into Photoshop and placed it accordingly on my picture. I then wrote my slogan in a text box, made the text white and saved my project.

If I were to do this project again I would change the style of spoof ad. I would do an ad where you keep the text but change the picture.
Die Coke- Chris
Diet Coke spoof ad.
For my spoof I have chosen a Diet coke ad. In this ad it says, Live like your on in five, light it up and Diet coke.
I decided to change the ad into a smoking ad by changing the text. For live like your on in five, instead I changed it to live like your gone in five. And for light it up, I kept it because it’s promoting you to light up a cigarette. For Diet Coke I changed it by using the stamp tool this allowed me to change the words to Die, Instead of Diet coke. As you see in the mirror there is a skeleton, this is because smoking kills.

PENG - Pore Minimizer
Original Ad
Spoof Ad
Name of Original Ad: “Pore Minimizer”
Description: The original ad had a sample of Clinique’s pore minimizing cream with a greenish background and the title “Pore Minimizer”.
I chose to do a spoof of this ad since the title “Pore Minimizer” caught my attention and I immediately got ideas for making fun of the ad. Also, the title said “minimizer” – not “remover”. This could mean that the product doesn’t completely get rid of pimples. It could just be a marketing strategy to sell a potentially expensive product. Usually, these products for skin care are quite expensive.
To make my spoof ad, I resized the image so that it was smaller. I changed the title to “Poor Minimizer”. I also did this on the product itself. I found a funny picture and used it as a big chunk of my background. I then filled in the rest. Additionally, I added an expensive price tag.

If I did a similar assignment, I would make my image “cleaner” and more professional. I would probably need to know more about Photoshop and the various tools to do a good job.

Dillan's Spoof Ad!
Spoof Ad
Original Ad
Name and Description of Original Ad:
The ad I chose was a Christmas ad for the Heineken beer company. It displayed a Beer bottle with Christmas decorations and on top of the bottle is had the words “ Fridge Stuffer.” The Ad had a dark green almost black background and text in both of the bottom corners. The ad is showing that Heineken would be a great drink to buy in the winter season.
Reason I chose this Ad:
After looking at this ad I realized it would be and easy and fun ad to make a spoof of. It talks about stuffing your fridge with beer but as people know when you drink a lot of beer you get drunk and your vision is impaired and it’s hard to drive. Drinking and driving is not good and causes a lot of deaths.
What I did to my Ad:
I took the original ad and changed the meaning of the ad by altering the picture and the text. I wanted to change the overall meaning of the ad from the buying a lot of beer to stuff your fridge is good and now it’s more along the lines of If you drink and drive after a lot of beer you can kill yourself and/or others.
To create my ad I changed image size, took an image from the Internet and changed the text on my ad. I also changed background colors and text colors. I pasted different pictures in different places. I changed the text and images in my ad.

What I would do differently:
If I were to do a similar assignment to this one the main thing I would do differently is to spend more time choosing my ad so that I can find something that could be easier and have a more influential and descriptive meaning.

Fcuk Guaranteed – Jade
Before After
Fcuk Guaranteed
Name and description of the original advertisement
Fcuk Ad, the original advertisement was a woman all dressed up with a label across her that said, “Guaranteed”
Why you chose to create a spoof ad of this advertisement
I choose to spoof this ad, because of the text that was labeled across her chest, I figured the word would be really easy to play around with and make the text play off the picture.
Describe the things you did and the steps you took to create your new ad.
I removed the text from the original ad, and pasted it into a picture of Jessica Alba. I chose this picture because I found it would easily catch the audience’s attention.
If you used images from two or more different sources, name and reference them.

Adidas "Original" Cologne For Men (Spoofed)
Spoof Ad Assignment
My spoof ad was for adidas men’s cologne called Original. The people in the ad are very “fake” I should say and are dressed fully in adidas clothing, and basically all look the same.
I chose to spoof this ad because I had a lot of ideas to put down about it. Since they all looked the same, and fake, I decided to call the perfume FAKE, and made it for men or women (not specifically). I also, changed the writing at the bottom, before it said, “Celebrate originality”, so I changed “Celebrate being like everyone else…fake”. So, I think that could make an impact of some sort. Also, I took out the big adidas symbol in the background, because I felt it was too much. Basically I changed just the writing and some of the image to get what I thought it meant across.
-Sasha Roknic.
Jenny Craig's Diet Miracle-Vanessa
This ad was first for a Biotherm aging cream, to rejuvenate older skin. I chose to change it into a diet ad, to show all the extremes that women go to become skinnier. Since in the Biotherm ad a woman was eating grass, I thought it would be a good product to sell. I spoofed the ad before I scanned it, so the original isn’t shown, but in Photoshop I made the changes cleaner. First I got rid of all the text that I added by hand, and instead added new neater text. I used shadows to made the text more interesting, such as shadows and bevel and emboss. To put the ad all together, I used the clone stamp to make the background the same colour. Then I used to the liquefy filter to give it a different effect. At the bottom of the ad, where there’s a picture of food, which is crossed out, I made the x more even. I changed the colours to coordinate it better, and added a box where old text was. If I were to do this project again, I would plan out my ad better, because it would have made the process quicker, and make the ad more organized.
Sally Hansen - Kevin T
Sally Hansen Natural Nail Growth Activator
Sally Hansen is a product that claims that it allows you to grow naturally beautiful nails.
I chose to spoof this advertisement because I think it’s ridiculous. Their slogan is “grow naturally beautiful nails,” when you grow those all the time without any help from beauty products. This product is taking credit for what nature does by itself.
To create my new ad, I fist got rid of everything except the fingers, both bottles, and the name of the product with the magic wand and eraser tools. Then I used the brush tool to get rid of the words on the bottle and got rid of the “shine” of it. I then added a skull and crossbones and changed the opacity to 10%. I then added a new background, which was the ground and sky. After that I created a new slogan for the product. Lastly I added some dirt to the fingernails with the clone tool.
I got the dirt ground, sky, and skull and crossbones from google searches.
If I were to do a similar project again I would add a background that is gets my message across more effectively.

Gillette: Mach9 — Dillon K
English Media
Spoof Ad
Dillon Katrycz
Name and description of the original advertisement.
The original advertisement was for Gillette’s Razor, Mach 3. The ad was simple enough, just an image of the product. No slogan or additional advertising devices.
Why did you choose to create a spoof ad of this advertisement (rationale)?
In the world today, most men shave their faces on a daily basis. Razors started out with a single blade, progressing to two blades, then three, and now I see advertisements for razors with four, even five blades. My question to these companies: when is it going to stop? How many blades is too many?
Describe the things you did and the steps you took to create your new ad.
I actually began on several other ideas before coming to my final one. The idea just came to me when I was thinking about how to put a twist on an ad for a product with very definitive characteristics; shaving razors, for instance, are made either for men or women and do not vary in many ways. I found it funny how razor companies use the tactic of adding blade after blade to their razors to make us think that the product is more efficient. I then decided to add a ridiculous amount of razor blades to a well-known shaving razor to make the spoof ad humorous.
If you were to do a similar assignment again, what would you do differently and what would you need to know?
If I were to do a similar assignment again, I would spend more time outside of class to think of my idea. I think that maybe I was counting on a great idea to simply pop into my head, but I went through several mediocre ones before I came to something I was satisfied with.
Ketel One-JESSICA
Ketel One Spoof Ad
*Name & Description of the original ad*
The ad was for Ketel One vodka, it was just a plain white page ad that said "Dear Ketel One Drinker, May we just say that you looked great the other night."
*Rationale*
I was thinking that not a lot of people look too good when they drink. In fact, usually when someone's drunk it can be really unattractive. Ketel one seemed to be selling a false image, that, if you drink Ketel one you will look good. I thought that I should change the add and make it as if the statement was sarcasm, by adding a photo of a really unattractive drunk person. I wanted the ad to be very simple, just the text and the image. I wanted all the focus to be on the point I was making.
*The Steps*
First I had to find a good image, but it didn't take too long. I opened the ad in Photoshop and rotated, cropped and brightened it. Then I simply cropped the other image and inserted it over the Ketel One ad.
*Sources*
Unknown
*If you were to do a similar assignment again what would you change?*
I would get an ad that I could make more aesthetically pleasing, use some effects. I would make sure I had a really clear idea of what I wanted to achieve.

NuvaRing - Casey
The advertisement I chose to spoof was a NuvaRing, once a month contraceptive, ad. In the original picture 3 women were holding their NuvaRings looking very happy and there was a list of facts about the NuvaRing.
I chose to spoof this ad because when I saw it, because I immediately came up with a good idea to spoof it. I wanted to have a funny spoof.
I erased all the small print facts about NuvaRing and I changed some words. I also got pictures of cigar cutters off the internet and replaced the NuvaRings the women were holding with them. I filled in all the space I deleted with the sam e blue that was used in the background of the original ad.
I got the cigar cutters from www.smoke.co.uk/Luxury/More_Accessories.htm called James Barber Tobacconists.
If I did another assignment like this I would like to know more about how to use tools on Photoshop so I could do more creative ideas.
HANNA- absolut
Spoof Ad Write-Up
For my spoof ad I spoofed an advertisement for “absolut vodka”. The original advertisement was simple, just like the spoofed version and it had a picture of a bottle of vodka with a little picture of Christmas decorations beside it. Underneath this picture it said “absolut scrooge”. I decided to spoof this ad because I thought that the simplicity would be easy to change and that by keeping the spoofed ad simple it would make it more effective.
To create my spoofed ad, I erased the typed words “absolut scrooge” and replaced them with “absolut drunk” because vodka is such a strong alcohol. I then added a slogan of “want to forget everything about your Christmas?”. I thought this was a good idea because it’s mocking those who drink so much that they forget everything in the morning. I also framed the image a bit but tried to keep it looking as much like the original ad as possible. I only used the one ad that I found in a magazine that I do not remember the name of.
If I were to do the assignment again I would keep it simple, just like I did. I think that the simpler the image/ad, the better. I was very familiar with Photoshop before the project began so I knew all the tools to use and I found the creative process very easy. I would probably try and make it a little bit more creative, though, seeing as all I did was change the text and frame the image better. I am happy with the outcome of my ad, though.
The Beach Isn't Always Gorgeous - JOSH G
Name Of Original Ad
The Original Ad was for Qt Sun Tan Lotion. It was a picture of a lady in a bathing suit, reading the news paper, on the beach, on a nice sunny day. There was a bottle of sun tan lotion beside her. The original slogan was "It makes you browner faster"
Rationale
I chose to make a spoof ad of this ad beacuase the beaach isn't as pretty and breath taking as it appears in ads. I have personally been on beaches all along the pacific coast and there is such a thing as a cloudy day(it may not happen very often but it does happen). I also chose it because I thought I could do lot of things with it.
What I Did
I did a lot of things to my ad. First I found a picture of Jaws on the Web and then I pasted it in behind the lady. Then I erased all the words that were already on the ad and peplaced them with my own. I erased the slogan above her and erased the symbol on the bottle of sun tan lotion. I then found a picture of the ocean on google and pasted it in behind jaws. Then, I found pictures of killer ants and pasted them in beside the lady. Then, to make it even "worse", I added a Tarantula on her leg.
Images Used
The images I used all came from google image search. To find the picture of the lady, i typed in "Swimsuit". Then to find the picture of the shark I typed in "jaws". Then to find the ants i typed in "ants", and to find the spider i typed in "tarantula".
What would I do Differently
If I were to do this ad again i don't think I would change too much, but I would try and do more work on the slogan.
beans-Josh C
The original two Ads
the two Ads combined
Beans Ad
For my spoof Ad I choose a bean Ad from a sports illustrated magazine that I thought would be easily spoof able because of the slogan “goes on everything”. I went on Google to find the most obscure picture I could get. I then cut out the merchandise “ can on beans” and the slogan “goes on everything” and pasted it on to the Google image. The newly created Ad is a lady lying down on a bed with a can of beans in her arms. I put the slogan over her to give the viewer the idea of it the beans going on anything.

Swiffer Acid - SEAN R
My Spoof Ad
1- Name & Description
The ad I chose to parody was an ad for a lemon-scented Swiffer. It featured a Swiffer cleaner wiping a wooden floor, and a grove of lemons being created in it’s swerving wake. It also features a little blurb about how great it is, with a really crappy catch phrase. Not the most impressive ad to date.
2- Why I chose to create a spoof ad of this advertisement- Rationale
This ad tries to promote a “fresh”, more “natural” Swiffer with its “lemon scent”. The fact is: nothing about Swiffer is natural. The “lemon scent” this thing leaves off is no more than a collection of chemicals that they add to their ever-expanding vat. Why would you spread all these extra chemicals on your floor just for it to have a vague scent of lemons? You’re supposed to be cleaning! People need to be aware that not all additions are good, especially when it comes to personal hygiene.
3- Desccribe the things you did and the steps you took to create your new ad.
I decided the best way to spoof this is to make those added chemicals deadly, and what better chemical combo than acid! It makes for a good laugh, and also makes you think a little about what’s been put into the products you buy every day. I did this by first removing the lemon path and replacing it with a dirt path. I gave it a shadow to look as though it was below the floor. I touched up the side where the ad had been ripped by smudging, and I cloned the green text area to fill up that cut. Next, I painted some green on a new layer around the edge of the path, smudged it, and changed its opacity to make it look like vapours. I put some on the Swiffer, too. I removed the text and added my own, saying things like “the best way to clean is to remove it all together” and the like. I changed the catch phrase to: “Introducing a “fresh” new twist on dangerous chemicals”. I also added some skeletons I found off of the Internet. Finally, I changed the box design to skull and crossbones. Lemons do have some acid in them, so I think it them one good.
4- If you were to do a similar assignment again, what would you do differently and what would you need to know?
Overall, I think I made a pretty good spoof. It’s funny, it looks good, and it also proves my point. If I had to do it again, I would avoid tampering directly with the background. I would also use the clone tool instead of the smudge tool to make the tailored areas a bit more attractive. Fortunately, I now have the understanding of Photoshop to effectively use these tools. The one thing I would like to learn about, though, is how to better use layers. I’m sure I could have used only one layer for pasted-in images somehow. Besides that, my ad looks pretty good.
